Anyone own either? Have comments on which is better and why? They're very similarly priced this month. The only difference I see is the DR claims a 4 1/2" v. 4" on the Wallenstein. And the Wallenstein seems to have a nicer, wider hopper for feeding.

I have the Bearcat model myself. The only thing that would make it better is automatic feed, but that was a cost descision. Philip.

I looked at both before I bought my Wallenstein BX42. I think the DR is a nice occassional use chipper, but I do feel that it is more lightly built than the Wallenstein for not much less money. The Wallenstein will chip 4" X 6" so you really aren't losing much there. Now the DR has a belt, and runs faster, but it has a much lighter flywheel, and only one chipping knife. The Wallenstein has 4 knives so you actually get more cuts per revlolution I think in a heavier duty unit. I think the DR should be priced much closer to $1500 for what you get.......... and then it would be a better deal. Prices are up I guess, and DR continues to send me literature, but I haven't once wished that I had bought one instead of the Wallenstein.

Im in agreement with ChuckinNH - looked at both and bought the BX42 and love it. Heavy duty and works great - I would by the same one again

I have a DR and would characterize it as a very light duty implement. It will handle 3" softwood, but we don't have much of that around here. Hardwood capacity is about 2"

Hey, I just noticed you're a Vermonter. I'm up near Stowe. If you'd like to come over some weekend and give the DR a tryout, I'd welcome the company! :thumbsup:
I just got my Wallenstein BXM32 a cople of weeks ago and love it. I was able to get a spare set of blades @ no cost, and get this, they even custom painted it to match my BX2660 at no extra charge! It might have been because I ordered it in the winter, presumably when they are a little slower.
The chipper works great. Self feeds so strongly that you can harldly pull a 3" tree back out to reposition it. The shredder was described by my buddy that was helping me (help comes easier when you have new toys to play with) as "angry". Once it grabs hold, the branches and sapplings get sucked through there so quickly that it reminds me of a motar opperating in reverse.
Build quality is superb and the dealer and regional rep have both been great.
