Hi!

I am thinking of building a light duty rear rotary tiller for my YM2000. I am thinking of using a fairly heavy duty Snapper front tine tiller as the starting point. I have one in real good shape - except I ran it out of oil and fried the engine.

So I am thinking of adding a 90 degree gearbox and extending the tines to be wider than the wheels (4 feet). Ya - I know - the tiller has a 7 hp motor and I want to use 20 PTO HP. I think if I use my head and don't till the driveway it will hold up. It is belt driven so it has the safety net of belt slippage if it gets in too deep.

I would make a TPH frame to add on. What I need is a line on where to get a 20 HP right angle gear box to power it.

Any ideas, help, comments or rude noises? :p

I am doing something very similar. Purchased the main axle with blades for 42" Landpride tiller and building up the rest. Now you can find gear box on ebay sometimes or Surplus Center - Hydraulic Equipment Electric Motors or dealers carry spare parts to their tillers - but those are few hundred dollars.

I've got a busted tiller that came with my Mitsu D1800, you're welcome to anything that's on it, if you'll come and git it. Oh, and take the whole thing. ;-)

An old car differential with center locked or the one axle locked.:D

You may also look for someone/someplace that has a lot of old farm machinary. There is a lot of equipment that uses a gear box. The pto shaft may be there as well.

Thanks for the help!!

Verrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting. But, where in heck is Coker Creek Tenn in relation to Columbus GA?

Also, the agri supply bush hog gear box looks interesting at $99. My local tractor guy wants $245 for a 40 hp box!

East of Cleveland, Tn, or about three and a half hours away. Might be worth a drive if he will post some pictures, or send them email to make sure of what your getting versus what you need. I think it's probably 215 miles from you.

Old tractor 3 pt mounts posthole diggers, will supply a good 1x1 angle gear box. I have found old posthole diggers for little more than scrap price. The gear boxes usually never wear out on these even though the rest is junk! ;))
