Kubota L3400-HST
OK, I purchased a new L3400 HST about a month ago, I did a lot of research and a LOT of reading on TBN. I now have twelve hours on it and I can't believe how much I love it!!! So thank you TBN and all of the members who posted and all the informative replys. :) I grew up with tractors but had been out of touch with them for about 20 years, I now have the time and land to need one again and I can't tell you how good it is to purchase something and have no buyers remorse, so one more time thank you for all the info! .... One question, reading some posts yesterday talking about tire inflation, how do you check tghe pressure in the rear tires if they have been filled? I have always been told that if you used a guage on filled tires it would ruin the gauge. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Joe

Joe, many gauges will corrode quickly if used on liquid filled tires; however, I think nearly any auto parts store, even Walmart usually, has an air/liquid gauge and they don't cost much, if any, more than a regular air gauge.

As for how to do it. I can only tell you how I always did it. First I parked with the valve stem at the top; 12 o'clock position. Then I hit it with just one very quick shot of air to blow anything in the stem back into the tire. And then I put my tire gauge on it.

Congrats on the new L3400 HST Joe. I have 230 hours on mine and it has been very reliable so far. Only problem has been the sight glass of the left side of tranny cracked and started to drip. You probably have one of the new improved ones.

I have seen some plastic tire gauges somwhere. Birds advice is excellent.

Also agree that Bird's advice is excellent. Your rears should only be filled to 75% with liquid ballast, so with the valve at the 12 o'clock position, you should get but a small squirt of fluid. I do the same with my front tires since they are coated with Slime. I park the valve stems in the 12 o'clock position and let it sit for a few minutes. I then take a small screwdriver and let a little air out which also causes what little Slime in the stem to shoot out.

Well with Slimed tires - is it better to let a little out? Or blow it back in?
And hopefully you are not sliming 3/4 full.

No, I am not Sliming 3/4 full, I fill with the recommended amount.

You do make a good point about blowing it back in that I didn't even think about. Most of the time when I check the pressure, a little comes out onto my guage. To prevent this, I have been using the screwdriver trick to get what will come out, to come out on the screwdriver instead of the guage. The next time I check pressure, I will hit it first with a quick shot of air before I put the guage on. Is this what you had in mind?

Bird, Thank you for the excellent advice, as always this is the place to receive the correct info. As soon as I get out there I will hunt one of those gauges and try it out!
Thanks again everyone, Joe
