Here is a video I made of a recent ride. I took my dual sport bike (Suzuki DR350) on a 70 mile ride around the St. Mary's Glacier area near Alice, Colorado. The ride was about 10% pavement and about 90% dirt/rocks. Temperature at 5,000 feet was about 95 but the temps at 13,000 were in the mid 50s.

Here is a google earth view of part of the area I rode

AWESOME!!!!!

One of my dream vacations is to get in my Mule and do on a drive like that through the mountains and spend the night someplace different every night. I've seen tons of ATV's all over CO and think it would be a great way to see a lot of country fairly easily.

Well if you take the Mule to a place like this.

A. Rejet, base is at about 7K feet the top goes over the continental divide 13K feet

B. Plan for about at least a 4 hour trip.

C. Drink plenty of water days before and the day of, flatlanders get altitude sickness easier than us that live at altitude.

D. MAPS! especially here, there are so many looping trails and connecting trails that its easy to get lost. Plus since a SxS is not street legal you need to know where the OHV only trails are.

E. Cell phones don't work round here, have a backup plan/spare tubes, tires, parts.

Sure is beautiful there. I took my KTM 640 on the eastern portion of the transamerica trail. We started in tn and ended in co. The worst part about the ride was stopping where We did and not explore more of co. I hope to be back some day!

Neat
I just got a new KLR650 and have 700 miles on it so far.
After not riding for 30 years I love riding the Forrest roads around my cabin I did 40 miles this morning

how did you track your route?

Those klr's are bulletproof. One of the guys with me was on one, the other on a 990. No issues with any of the bikes.
Unfortunately my waterpump seal went on mine last fall and I'm just getting around to fixing it. I've misses a lot of good riding this year.
I tracked the route by gps. I bought the maps and transferred all the turns to a .gpx file.
It was the most fun I've ever had.

I use a relatively inexpensive handheld GPS that can display TOPO maps. Turn it on and it tracks my route. Download the tracks and I can see where I have been.
