mine are copper.

Probably from the transformer to the residence. The main feeder lines are aluminum. Of coruse aluminum itself is worth a bunch of salvage.

Most all high power transmission lines are steel reinforced aluminum. Copper is sometimes used for medium and low power lines, though more modern installations will often have aluminum from the transformer to the building.

Of common metals for wiring at "normal" temperatures, in order of electrical conductance, it's silver, copper, gold, and then aluminum.

Interesting. I'll bet they stole the lines that they cut. I couldn't find the news story, but seems like the high price of copper has resulted in a lot of copper theft, with several of the idiots frying themselves.

What "high price of copper"? It looks about as low as it's been in the last FIVE years.
