I took delivery of an olive green 825i Gator with silver wheels and Maxxis Bighorn tires last week. This machine is headed to my dad's house for duty up there. I will keep the Ranger for now, though I was so impressed with the engine performance of the Gator, I am thinking of trading to get one. One snafu in this is that the bench seat is not like a Polaris bench seat. It lacks a center belt and is much too narrow to seat three across--unless they were elves. I also do not like the lack of power steering and tilt wheel on this machine. The build quality and heaviness of the components, however, is better than the Ranger--hands down.
One thing I wanted to pass on to the group is that Unisteer is currently working on a power steering assist kit for the Gator which would help it substantially. It is not available yet, but in my mind would be essential to operate a heavy plow or other front end attachment. In addition, Boss Plow is working to adapt their Power V Plow to the new Gator, and likely will have it ready before winter solidly hits. Unfortunately, their Power V plow weighs over 350# so without the power steering, it would be quite unpleasant to use at slow speeds. I have heard the JD will handle the plow well with the Fox Shock kit, which adds another mere $1300 dollars to the price. Don't all jump at once, now.
