Wanting to make 3pt log splitter

Question: Where is the best place to buy hydraulic cylinder and detent valve looking for quality at the best buy. Want to make it where I can run it vertical so I will also need to find a wedgeto fit on the end of the cylinder

Sweet.. Thanks MadReferee, I didn't know that you could get a kit for a log splitter and then buy some additional parts and there you have it. I have checked Northern Tool's stuff, in buying all the parts and then welding the frame, etc.. but since I found Surplus Center it would appear that you don't have to do much part shopping..

I thought about using the cylinders off of my loader. But then I'm pretty cheap. But my log splitter project is waiting till after the bbq project which is about a year behind at this time..

i recently seen a three pt splitter that i thought was kinda neet instead of going strait out the back with the beam they went sideways made it allot more compact and it didnt stick out so far it was also a standup

Couple of thoughts from someone who has used one of these a LOT ;-)

I was looking at the tractor supply catalog today and they have most of the parts. I know that northern has a weldable wedge...

As far as the crossways across the back of the tractor, I would think twice about this. In my case, I would extend the third link to set the wedge end on the ground or on a small (~ 8") tall stub so I did not have to lift the wood up so high.

BTW - If you want to consider buying, my FIL has a HD homemade horizontal for sale now - PM me if you want more info...
