I put a new winch on my jeep and have the old warn doing nothing. I was thinking about installing it on my John Deere 302 industrial. Where should I put it...front or rear and what location? I do have a FIL.

Make a couple of hitch receivers to go on front and rear, and maybe on some implement, like a box blade. Mount the winch on a receiver winch mount and have cables to reach each place.

Thinking along those lines too. On mine, would weld a receiver tube onto the front brush guard where it's bolted to the chassis.

Considering size of tractor batteries and alternators I am not in favor of electric winches on tractors.... But IF you insist.... I suggest receiver hitches on front and rear of chassis if possible and adapter for winch that will fit receivers....

Here's what I did. The receiver is mounted so it locks into the existing steel of the tractor. I used 300A Anderson type connectors. These connectors are installed on the tractor and my Trailblazer. Cable is 2/0 welding cable. I made up a 25' set of jumpers with connectors on each end and another short pair with vise grips on one end and a connector on the other. That lets me mix and match. Recently when some dummy (me) forgot to switch the ignition OFF in Wifey's car after troubleshooting I could connect the TB to her car and get it started. The Trailblazer was outside and her car was head-first in the garage.

Pay no attention to the rats nest of cable on the winch. It was replaced with synthetic that is now neatly wrapped. I have another 3000# winch that has the same connectors on it that is part of two other stalled projects. It is also made up to plug into a receiver and has a cheapie wireless remote that works well.

Smart looking setup you've got. Standard L4240 battery has a CCA of 582. In actual winch use is that adequate, or are you having to pull amps from your TB too?

Just be apprised of the limited battery and alternator capacity as 12 volt winches pull a lot of amps.
Since it was on his Jeep for years and he bought a new one, I'm sure he knows.

The Kubota can handle the winch OK. The Trailblazer was connected to jump the Kubota because the tractor was starting to turn over more slowly as I cranked away.

The Kubota and Trailblazer each have a 300A Anderson type connector with several feet of 2/0 welding cable for connecting the winches. With that, if either of those two vehicles needs some juice it's a simple matter of plugging them together. Nice touch is the plugs on the cables make it unnecessary to even think about polarity and allow for final connection several feet away from the batteries. The 25' jumpers have connectors on both ends.

I've used the winch on the TB a few times on the rear receiver using the jumpers. One of the many things on the "to do list" is to mount a receiver on the front of the Trailblazer.

I also made up a short cable set with a connector on one end and visegrips on the other (below). It was pretty easy to remove one of the rivets holding the fixed jaw and replace it with a bolt for the crimped cable lug. To jump another vehicle with the TB (or jump the TB with another) the visegrips make a great contact with the battery terminals on the other vehicle.
