Buying Advice Warning advice for buying out of state with Kubota

There are hundreds of billions of dollars in unpaid taxes every year. Sadly, the states too often go after the guy running a yard sale, instead of the multinational hiding profits in the Cayman Islands.

20 years ago I did a craft show in MA. I still get sales tax filing forms, mailed to my home, here in PA.

The same thing exists with Oregon, which has no sales tax, and neighboring California. Some Californians pay cash in Oregon, then haul the tractor back to California and never have a problem.

That only works if the state does not have a 'use tax', and virtually all of them do. There is no 100% legit way to not pay tax unless the state lacks a use tax law. Its okay for the retailer (us) not to collect when crossing state lines because of the interstate commerce clause, however if there is a use tax your obligated to remit taxes for anything and everything you bought and did not pay tax on (Amazon.com, etc). We have the same thing here in PA where guys can go to Delaware, but that does not address the use tax issue.

MA, and CT seem to be the most aggressive in reguards to collecting, everyone else just crosses their fingers in hopes that they don't get caught... very few do.

About 26 years ago, I had a temp job doing data entry for the State of Texas as they were converting their microfiche records to a database system. My job was to input the court document index data for the Road Use Tax lawsuits. There were about 25 of us on the project and we each were issued 10 pages at a time to input. I completed 12 sets before I got a better job and quit the project. It had been going for about a year before I started and was still going long after I left.

In case the vague math above evades anyone, that is a crap load of tax evasion convictions simply for road use taxation. Most of it was heavy equipment and construction trucks bought out of state to local companies.

MA and CT may be to most aggressive in collecting, but don't mess with Texas tax revenues either! :smiley_aafz:
