Warning lights on while running and do not go out

Today's puzzle: Massey-Ferguson 251 Problem: 3 Lights in dash come on and will not go out. Battery charge warning light comes on. Engine oil pressure warning light comes on. Transmission oil pressure warning light comes on. Tractor runs with all three lights on.

Belt to alternator is tight and is tensioned on fan pulley.
Transmission shows fluid up to XX mark on dipstick (full).
Battery appears to be sound.
Front lights work. Rear lights work. Turn signals work. Flasher works.
Checked fuses in cavity below steering wheel. All appear to be ok.

Where would I start to get the lights to go off and fix what might be wrong?

a. Checked battery ground. Cleaned the Ground to the frame and surprising amount of crud around battery. Cleaned off radiator. Started tractor. Lights still on.
b. Unplugged warning light leads (lights went out) and plugged them back in - lights still on.
c. Tachometer has lights on from the dash, but DOES NOT WORK.
d. In process of recharging battery - running it at idle did not charge it.

9.20 Evidently tachometer is connected to alternator in some way. Will have to take rear shroud off and start checking wires.

Bad alternator can give such symptoms.

MF240, battery light came on and stayed on like yours. Trouble was tracked to a faulty alternator, it was only delivering a weak charge, 8 or 9 volts instead of 12 volts.

I have the shroud, top over the fuel tank, side screen off front of alternator and panels off the tractor. I can see the wiring and alternator wiring and will be able to check it with a multimeter. That was it for the morning. Other stuff to do today - appreciate your suggestions and encouragement.

Will post what I find out on Saturday.

Here is what I found out -

Probed battery with meter – 12.87 volts. Probed when running – 12.53 volts.

Probed alternator while running – 12.53 volts. Small red wire – 1.21 volts.

Started tractor and took off negative to battery– tractor stopped.

Have to think about what it means. Thanks.

Never test a alternator by disconnecting the battery while its running, it can kill it in an instant.

You have a dead alternator, does it have an replaceable regulator?

Agvg: I found the wiring diagram.

It is connected.

There has been a suggestion that I take an 8 ga. wire and connect it between the alternator and the hot lead on the starter. That is supposed to bypass the wiring harness. Would this work?

Second set of readings 9.24

Probed battery with meter 12.8 volts. Probed battery when running 12.55 volts.

Probed alternator while running 12.55 volts.

Still unsure as to what it means. Do I have a bad alternator or should I be looking for a short?
