Kubota BX22, RTV 900
After all of the talk on this forum about the different items on the RTV that have failed or starting to fail, I went on the Kubota website last week and contacted them to request a list of items that have been upgraded / recalled on the RTV 9000.

In received a call from someone at corporate this morning to discuss my inquiry. I was informed that the only items listed for official action were the front hood and the cap for the hydraulic tank.

When I inquired about the rattle in the front end and talk of loose universal joints, he told me that this was not a recall item and will be handled on a individual basis. He also indicated that the specs or tolerances for the front driveshaft have been tightened up for the new units.

I told him that I'm getting the rattling noise. He told me he would contact my dealer and send then the new parts required to fix the machine. He also asked if my machine was still under warranty. When I told him that it was he said that was good and there would not be any problems getting the work done.

I guess what I'm saying is that this sounds like a "If you don't ask, we won't tell" issue that may be a problem if your machine is out of warranty.

I have mixed feeling about the whole thing. On one hand, I glad that a real human being, that spoke real English, took the time to call me and address my concerns. On the other hand, I think Kubota should realize that this is the first model of this type of machine that they have ever built. I have a feeling that they sold a lot more machines than they thought that they would. BUT, they should also realize that the first or even second year of a completly new type of machine is still part of the shake-down period and be upfront about the problems and the fixes required.

I have no idea if the following statement has any validity, but that has never stopped me. Here are my thoughts: I'm assuming that the serial numbers for the RTV start at 10,000. My machine is in the 22,000 range from last August. That being the case, they have sold a minimum of 15,000 machines to date. Even at an average cost of $10,000.00, that is 150 million dollars in income, less the dealers commissions. Again, a lot of assumptions in the above (maybe each of the 4 models has it own starting serial number) and they have only sold a few thousand RTV's.
Either way, be upfront, resolve the problems as they are discovered and continue to make the quality machines that Kubota is know for.

Kubita basically invented the CUT market 25 years ago, and now they are kicking everyone else's butt with the RTV after just one year.

I just hope that they take the high road and resolve the issues that exist.

Just my thoughts.

Very well said.

As all of us 1st. generation guy's are fast approaching or have exceeded our factory warrantees, this issue will no doubt become more and more a discussion point on this forum and others. Having said that, it will be important for all of us to continue to communicate with our dealers and Kubota so that recalls are followed through and/or generated for what seems to be common issues among all of us here.

Despite the fact that some of us have been frustrated with the lack of communication with Kubota with some of these issues, I have no reason personally to doubt that Kubota won't ultimately stand behind their product. The reason why I think this way is Kubota probably spent a boat load of cash developing the RTV and the one thing that could kill this product for them is to have a lot of us 1st generation guy's speaking poorly about them and the RTV. That could translate pretty quickly in a reduction of sales. I would also bet my last dollar that Kubota reads these comments anonymously (bczoom = Kubota insider? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )in this forum and take what we say very seriously. Time will only tell.

Another issue that Kubota seems oblivious about is the fogging fuel and temp guages. When I talked to the rep many moons ago he advised that he had never heard of my concerns. To me that was hard to believe, especially after reading all the posts here and on other forums with the same problem. Now it's the drive shaft issue. I know we're not the only ones with these problems.

There is a service bullitin out about replacing fogging gauges. Your dealer can fix that, there is a new gauge set.

Once there is a formal fix for the rattle I am sure we will see a bulltin about that too, I doubt there will be a full out recall though. We have sold 40-50 RTV's and I don't think any of them have been back for this problem.

Is this a recent bullitin? I've had mine replaced twice without any cure. If it's a new bullitin I guess I'll be back to the dealer. I've got to go back anyway because of the driveshaft rattle.

Not me!!! Heck, I probably slam the RTV more than anyone out here.... but, I'll also praise its good points.

Hey, I thought I was the biggest "mixed signal" person. I'm an equal opportunity complainer. I am not shy about pointing out what I like about my RTV and 5030, and I'm not shy about pointing out problems. I just feel that I got the screws put to me on the "waiting game" until I ran out of warranty. I feel that now I'm going to have to be a very squeaky wheel if I have any chance of getting any of the issues fixed on my RTV without going big bucks out of pocket. If I'm stuck doing that, I'll be sure to let everyone possible know about the problems with the RTV and how great the dealer was about holding me off until I'm out of warranty. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I'll have to strongly advise every RTV owner to camp out at their dealer until the issues are corrected! Obviously I'm a bit hot about my RTV and 5030 right now!!! Fortunately my 5030 is still under warranty and I'm no longer going to be the "nice guy" and just wait.

Hang in there. If you have service orders dated before your warranty expired that list these issues then I'm sure with not to much fuss you will bring Kubota over the tight wad hump....

Deep breaths.... Cold Drink.... & a Hot Tub and all will not seem so bad in the morning....

Time to beat this dead horse again.

I guess my talk with the man at Kubota worked. I received a call from my dealer yesterday. The service mechanic wanted to come out and replace the drive shaft items creating the rattle. I explained that would be fine, but told him about the gauges that keep fogging up.

He said OK. He would order new gauges and once everything is in, he come out and make the repairs. It's about 40 miles, so I don't think that they want to make any extra trips.

I'll wait to see what happens next.
