Warranty work?

I may end up in a situation where either

1) I purchase a tractor from one dealer farther away because of price (~$6k difference)

2) Purchase a slightly used tractor (34 hours).

There is a TYM dealer near me but we are too far apart on price, is warranty work up to their discretion?

A big part of every positive sale is the relationship between yourself and your dealer.
I'm sure you'll have a much more positive experience from your purchase. Also, our tractors hold up extremely well, 34 hours is just breaking it in.

34hours is one percent of 3400hrs which might be considered the life of the tractor. Anything better than a one percent price reduction would be a deal, as long as the warranty is not expired on time. Might try to get a full length warranty in the deal.

6K ? That's a big difference! I would be willing to take the risk of having to do the drive if something needed fixed for that much savings.

I'm assuming that dealers bill TYM if there is warranty work to be done. If that is the case then where I buy the tractor from really shouldn't matter, right? I live in a remote area and there is only one dealer. I like them, however a $6000 difference equate to about 40%.

What if you purchase a tractor and that dealer drops the brand? Shouldn't the warranty be honored at another dealer? What if you move out of the area?

It is true that in most cases the manufaturer pays, however, some dealers get their nose out of joint and make it difficult for you and put no priority on your repair. Think months for a repair. Others see it as an opportunity to get you in for service work and sell you other things in the future. At the very least before you buy the one far away go onto the local dealer, tell him what you have found and see if he can do something to match or at least get closer. You might be surprised and at least the dealer will feel better that at least they had a chance. You might also discuss future service issues.

thanks, it's good advise. I spoke with the dealer here and they are encouraging me to get the tractor as they said it's a great deal. When the time comes they assured me they'd be happy to service it.

so true!! my dealer passed on RIP and it has been a PITA to get repairs in a timely fashion and other brand dealers don't trust TYM to pay or don't want one in their shop. my warranty is done all I need is a place to get parts n that isn't easy.

Sounds like you have a good dealer. Just a question to ponder, why is the other tractor $40% less? Is it an old model left over? Is it a demo or return? If it sounds to good to be true is it? If there are any issues such as having been stored a long time you will want to know. I bought a new old stock Landini a few years ago and the power steering never quite worked right. Turned out to be rusted area in the bottom of the ps cylinder. If it is anything other than pristine new I might take it to your local dealer as soon as you get it home and pay them to do a though inspection. I might even try to have something in the deal about that when you buy it in case they find something not warranty. If you do have the inspection done you will make your local guy start to think of you as his customer and this is one of his tractors. Just some random thoughts.
