Kubota BX23
Im moved in a different direction than most today. I just downsized from a Grand L 3130 GST with loader/BH to a BX23. The dealer gave me a decent trade in price and a good price on the BX and I got to extend my financing another 3 years at 0%.
Ive done some landscaping, clearing and grading as a side job for the last couple years with the 3130. This year I all but quit doing side jobs because of a health concern and other domestic issues. I decided that I still needed a tractor in my life, just not one as large as an L series, enter, the BX23.
Ive only had my BX for one day and havent really put it to work yet so its still early for a comparison, but Im pretty excited about my new toy so here it goes anyway.
I can say that its night and day. I know everyone that owns a BX says its a true tractor, but after owning a 7000lbs L series for the past couple years, I can say that driving the BX is more like riding a mower than a tractor. I mean no offense to anyone. The BX is a fine machine and its what I had in mind for my needs and Im sure of the same for many other people, its just that it feels so small under me. This is neither a good thing or bad thing.
I also long for my GST back. It was second nature to me. I can already see that the HST is going to be a totally different animal to operate. I am awkward at best performing loader operations with the little HST. Im also having an issue with the proper range selection going up and down the hills on my property, something I didnt have to think about with the GST. Its strange because the things that Im having problems with are the things that are supposed to be the strong suits for the HST. Guess I'll just have to spend more time on it to work out my issues. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ray, after using GST and then owning HST for 5 years, I can tell you, I much prefer HST for my chores. If you never develop the HST "feel" then that may not happen, but for my needs, mowing and loader work, I have yet to find any transmission type that compares. I have had shuttles with a Kubota L4850 and NH 2120, used a Kubota GST for a few days and owned both a L48 nd now L3830 HST and am convinced, for many chores, it is a very diffucult transmssion to beat, especially for the many tasks one encounters around the home.

RaT, Im sure it'll all come together. Its just a matter of what Im used to. As soon as I get my brain and body to work with one another, the HST will perform as well as everyone says it will. Maybe even as well as my beloved GST. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have to admit, as much as I enjoy HST, I really like GST and shuttle transmission types. I'm pretty agreeable to any of those transmissions. I think as easy as the HST is to learn, it also takes the longest to master.
