When the log house is done I will end up having to heat both shop and house(150 yds apart). I have two wood stoves, so it can be done, but I am thinking of building a waste oil heater for the 30x36 uninsulated shop. I have looked at several plans and there are different designs available, so I would like some info from someone with hands on experience.

It might be worth a PM to LetsRoll and a link to this thread. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like an update how the heater is working for him.

do you have a source of waste oil?

Yes, and good question as they do burn a lot of oil. I have not finished the LetsRoll thread yet, but I kinda want one that does not need a blower of compressed air. So, this may not work so well as the plain ole gravity feed tends to soot up quite a bit. A tank that can be hand pressurized might be the ticket.

The Mother Earth waste oil stove has an update... I am also wanting to build one, no power needed and low consumption. I'm okay with the higher consumption to get the shop up to temp, but then just a nice low steady heat so it doesn't get too hot would be nice.

I've been playing around with different burners and if you force combustion air into the burn it's night and day. Absolutely the way to go.You'll get much more heat out of your fuel source.

I just checked the Roger Sanders' link. Looks like it went from being free to paid for plans.

I am with you 100%...but...what happens when there is no "grid"? That is why I am thinking some type of Manuel Pump.
