Some time back I did a little job with my angle grinder and then switched off and started to put it away. The grinder started acting funny and gashed my hand. I forgot that the heavy rotating stone acts like a gyroscope and resists motion. Now I wait until the stone comes to a stop before putting it away.

Hope your hand is Ok. They will keep rotating for a long time after switching it off. Worse yet, make sure the switch is in the "OFF" position before pugging it in.

I'm the only one who uses mine, but in putting it away, I store it in a plastic container with all my welding stuff ... rod, hammer, chipper, file etc. I guess the switch got pushed to "ON". I had it on the dirt and plugged it in (not knowing). It screeched around the dirt pulling itself like a cat with it's tail on fire. Surprised the heck out of me.

:) Good one Rob :) ,
Thats almost sounds like a "thingy" post if I didnt know better ! ;)

I dont know what I would do without mine, I lost count how many rusted bolts and nuts Ive ground off with that thing ! I try to always use the extra side handle, but Im pretty guilty about not using the guard, mostly because its constantly gettin in the way !!! On a positive note I do wear safety goggles ! ;)

Hahaha what a cool video.
What will they think of next?:)

Another thing to remember is ALWAYS wear leather work gloves when using that angle grinder whether is has the grinding wheel, cut off wheel or wire brush on it. It's too easy for it to grab and twist in your hands.

So far I've never had a problem with an angle grinder running on after I released the trigger, but of course, I've cut the power cord in two by setting a circle saw down too soon, and I've cut the power cord in two with the electric hedge shears.

Hahaha, kinda like locking the trigger "ON" on the belt sander when you put it away in HS shop class :D

My father in law borrowed a grinder from a neighbor. I plugged it in, and it came on, fell off the table and broke the casing on the ground. I got blamed for it, but later found out the owner knew it had a sticky switch. I got to buy a new casing for it before we took it back. Taught me a lesson about plugging things in, no doubt!

Readabout a guy a while back doing serious hand damage. I also wear gloves and also let the grinder grind on some scrap before setting it down - those things can be real dangerous.

I avoid wearing gloves working with any power tools. I'd much rather get cut by a spinning blade than have it grab the glove and do some serious damage. I do NOT wear gloves in my woodshop. A local surgeon (according to my cardiologist) lost a couple of fingers and totally ruined his hand when a saw grabbed the glove he was wearing, pulled it into the blade and turned what might have been no more than a minor cut into a disaster.

Be very careful wearing gloves around any power tool - same philosopy that governs wearing loose clothing around a non-shielded PTO shaft.
