Wow!!!

I will really have to get used to reverse on this little thing!

Press too hard on reverse and the tractor takes off. This also throws you forward which causes you to mash down on the pedal that much more resulting in a possible bad situation!

Do you guys just get used to this, or have you come up with a work around?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but this should be emphasized at the factory. I was on a hill pointing up when I took off in reverse. I'm glad I didn't panic and try to turn, phew...

Just wait until you get ahold of somehing solid with an implement and try to back up. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Your treadle assembly is different from mine. The new ones are purpoorted to be more sensitive. There is a spring kit to make the pedals stiffer, or you can do what FORUTEEEN did with the rubber cords.

I'll just have to get used to it and be careful. I had some real fun this afternoon. This unit digs MUCH better than my Ventrac did, but that's really it's strength.

I was ripping out some briars with the 4 in 1 bucket. Can't wait to try it tomorrow with the mini hoe!

Responsive, isn't she, eh?

Just keep apologizing to her, and she'll be forgiving.

On the reverse "problem" which you aptly describe, I find the treadle is best controlled when I have both feet on the pedals all the time. When I want to go in REVERSE, I keep enough down pressure on the FORWARD pedal so that it's a bit of a tug o' war to push the reverse pedal down while I am exerting counter-pressure on the forward pedal. Not to get Zen on you, but it's a bit of the Yin & Yang that I find gives me best control.

Hope that helps...

try toe under and pull up on the right treadle for reverse, for me at least this is a far safer method. the treadle is self centering so you just release to stop.

ya like tracdoc, i use both feet all the time and you want to keep your head about you too.

Be sure to keep the pedal grease fittings greased or it may not always self center.

The rubber cords work very well, but, if your only concern is with reverse, place an appropriately sized block of wood under the reverse treadle to act as a 'throttle limiter'! But remember that in some situations reverse treadle is needed to stop or to prevent forward motion!!

Thanks Fourteen. That's a good idea. Kinda like my old bus driver's pedal when I was in elementry school, ha ha...

I thought about doing that and finally decided that I would stay with it the way it is for a while to see if I can get used to it.

The first few days I had my 422 I was loading it on the trailer. I can’t remember way I put it to the floor going forward but when I did the pt jumped forward and slammed against the front bar of the trailer. As that was happing I instinctively hit reverse and the pt jumped backward clean off the trailer. This incident caused the truck and trailer to move forward about 4 feet. So just keep the idle low while loading and be careful.
