Good point, and one that seems to be lost on the "nobody wants to work anymore" crowd. Between boomers retiring, and the low birthrates of the last several decades as you noted we're feeling the pinch. With so many job openings going begging, hard to blame young people for passing up crappy jobs that don't pay very well.I think this is the new normal due to demographic shifts. There just are not enough people to do the work anymore. This was slowly happening prior to the pandemic but the pandemic simply increased the process.
A couple of coworkers posted photos of robots at restaurants. Some of the robots were in use local to me, some in a different part of the state, and one was overseas....
I've heard of robots in restaurants, but all I've seen is a couple of touchscreen ordering stations at McDonalds.
