Water in front axle - F14D

I drained the front axle this afternoon. When I removed the drain plug from the left hand side, I tiny amount of clean water came out before any oil. Nothing to worry about, or a sign of impending doom?

Also, I noticed that the oil drained from either end was black and dirty, while that drained from the diff casing drain was fairly clean. As this is all one volume of oil, why the difference?

Water and crud seem to settle to the bottom. If everything is tight and operating correctly I would move forward. I had to change both top spindle seals on my 2002d but did only because the top spindle bearings had gone bad. There was no lube up there so I replaced the top spindle bearings with sealed bearings.
