after running the tractor today i figured i'd fill it with the bed tank on the truck. i have had fuel and treatment in it from the winter. after starting the tractor i got about 200 ft and the thing died and now will not start. is it water? i know that the sump was pulling from the bottom of the tank but i have a water filter on the tank crank. will that not separate the water if there is a lot of it? do i have to drain the whole system? can i add something to suspend the water? is the $175.00 fuel left in the tank useless now? i have to run fence this weekend and would love to get the tractor runnin so i can use it and not have to drive t-posts through rock by hand.

Have you checked your CK2610's fuel bowl? If it is water, the red ring in the bowl will be floating... near the top if it is as bad as you describe.

If so, drain the entire tank of diesel in the tractor. Replace the fuel filter with a new one (filled with fresh diesel prior to fitting), fill the tank with fresh diesel and then try cranking until it fires up... if not, you may have to bleed the injectors, one at a time, which is (ideally) a two person job [one to bleed & one to 'start' the tractor].

As soon as you can, add a biocide treatment to your tractor's fuel tank.

Worry about the truck's bed tank later.

There is no effective treatment for water in diesel so don't put any in the tank. Try to catch as much of drained fuel as possible in a clear container. Water will settle to bottom where it's easily seen, letting you know if any is present.

thx for the advice. i took off the filter and then drained the water from the tank. i did have to bleed the injectors as advised. also added a shot glass of seafoam for good measure. she's runnin fine again and back in the barn. gotta love it how this goofy crap always happens on a weekend that is nice, and you have a todo list a mile long. to make things brighter, the back half of the fence is all going to have to be put in professionally. i don't have the willpower or the strength to get a jackhammer to do the back 300 ft.. gotta love livin on 2 inches of clay on top of a whole lotta rock.

thx for the advice.

Thanks for reporting back.

Don't forget to pick up a small 'diesel biocide' treatment the next time you're at an auto shop and add it to your tractor's tank. It's cheap insurance for 'down the road'.
