water in hydralic sump

My poor little Ford 1100 sat out all winter. I had a makeshift oil cap on my hydralic sump. Water leaked in and now I have foamy milky mess. I know I need to drain, but how can I be sure I get it all out? I just changed last summer, and the price of hydralic fluid is irritating. Live and learn.

Well there are a couple of way's to get water out of your system but none of them are real cheap.

1) You can drain and refill it a couple of times to try purge out the majority of the old oil.

2) You can install a bypass filter that has a water block filter in it. The filter will absorb the water and usually filter out particulate matter down to 1 micron.

3) There are additives that can be added to oil that will drop the water out of suspension. Only problem is the only place I know of that you can buy it sells it in a minimum quantity of 55 gallons.

4) You can rent a Centerfuge filtration cart and cycle the fluid through it until all the water has been removed.

I think I will drain and refill a couple of times. Do you think it would be best to drain after separation of water or run it, get it intermixed, and then drain. I know if it sits a couple of days, it will settle. It sure does not take much water in the system to get it to froth. I could try to blow out my lines.

Easiest way.

Buy cheapy walmart utf... drain old oil, add walmart utf, buy can of trans tune sea foam.. ad to oil... run it to get it mixed.. drain again.. refill with new oil.. Personally.. I'd had no problems with the walmart UTF in my fords...

Dopes the additives actually remove the water or just suspend it, which is still not too good for the system....

Transtune carries water out in soloution, not suspension. The directions on the can will be more specific.. but essentially you add it to the oil for a flush, or as preventative maintenance. . ( I'm guessing it has a polar solvent in it, and is thus able to grab water in soloution.. )

YES... TO KEEP USING OIL WITH ADDATIVE..

You can use it as a flush, and as preventative maint. If there is water in the system.. you flush it.. then you can add another can to the new oil as well. Directions are on the can.

But can you get pump problems resulting from too much suspended water by have too much water suspension additive in there ? The TSC fluid I use suspends water with no additive, I figured if it got more water in there than it could suspend it was time to change the fluid.
Am I way off in left field on this ?

No, I don't believe you are far off in that thinking. If you are already using an oil with soloution addative, and you see pooled water.. or emulsification ( suspension ).. then I think the oil needs to be changed.

Suspended or emulsified water is likely to be more damaging to the pump than disolved water in soloution.. like with using a polar solvent.. etc.
