Water in tranny

Well I rebuilt the hydraulic control, freed the pistons in the housing and that all seems to be good. I knew the tranny was overfill and there was water in the fluid so after the rebuild I drained the tranny - shoulda drained at the start so it could be drying out for a few days but I didn't so now... Should I let it sit open for a few days, put the output from a shop vac in to blow air through it or other suggestions?

When I replaced my trans fluid I splashed some diesel through it to flush out any crud, then let it drain dry overnight.

Compressed air (or a reversed shop vac) sounds like a good idea to blow water out. If you know there was water in there I would then let it dry overnight before refilling.

Water in the transmission is usually from rain that entered through a damaged shift lever boot. Its not very expensive. You might want to replace it.

I was thinking that a continuous flow of air (like the shop vac) would have the effect of drying any residual moisture and thought that most parts would have some oil on them so rust would not be a problem. Well the drain plug is open and the fill opening/dipstick is out and it will air out tonight as i could not figure a way to get the shop vac hose to stay poiitioned over the fill hole. It will get filled tomorrow with new hytrans fluid.

If you splash deisel in there to displace water adn drain it and then let dry overnight even with air from a shop vac i dont think rust would be a problem as you are filling it tomorrow with oil, and rust will just be minor surface and "wash " off with the oil once in and running around.

Well all is great - 2 days of open tranny and refilled with fresh fluid - my controller rebuild works like a champ - I feel like Eddie Arnold with his first success. Thanks all.
