Tractor - 2210D - has been getting harder to start....
Had water in fuel....cleaned tank, still had water in my fuel bowl couple days later - cleaned it out.
Still hard to start - starts on one cylinder - then the other will kick in, but would run fine then....was thinking bad ring or bad injector and started a post......then
Tried to start her after work yesterday and literally got showered in oil/water mix ....I removed the muffler and a green and slightly black antifreeze mix came flowing out of the exhaust chamber.
Norm responded: Hopefully it's only a blown head gasket. Might as well get one, and a rocker arm cover gasket, on order before tearing it down.
thanks norm!
Any other recommendations? I suppose I should go ahead and check other things to see what condition themotor is in like compression, others? Other parts I'll need?? special proceedures? I have the IT and manual for a 240, but I imagine the specs for my motor are a little different?
thanks

I pulled the head and found antifreeze in the front cylinder(about 1/2" on top of the piston). That cylinder liner looks good but that head was a bit more corroded than the rear cylinder (dry one).
I'm getting help from a friend with a valve spring compressor - to pull the valves and clean the head up so we can take a good look for cracks. Nothing real obvious on the head gasket as far as leaks. No oil in radiator or antifreexe on oil dip-stick.
Will a bad cylinder liner be obvious? I need to rotate the motor to have a look at the other liner - that one was at TDC when I removed the head. I'll likely need new valve seals and am considering removing the injectors to have them looked at.... Any ideas for how to proceed would be appreciated! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

After further inspection - It's a cracked head. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Looks like it's leaking into the exhaust manifold side of the head.
Going to see if it's repairable, but nearest engine machine shop is 100+ miles away so that will be a week or so before I make that trip.
Does anyone have a source for a used head in good condition? For a YM2210D - 2t90 motor?? Any reference to other Yanmar engines/equipment that would use the same head? Like a marine engine?
thanks.....

Try Western Kentucky Tractor Parts. I have heard very good things about them. They actually had a used head for my YM1110D 2T72 engine, and they are not very common. I however had mine welded locally, and it runs great.

Took the head to a somewhat local shop - retired cylinder head maker from Oakland. Been repairing heads for years. L
Did the magnaflux on it and it revealed a spider web of cracks between valve ports and injector ports. He's going to clean it up and have a better look at it then but he thinks it's repairable. He will repair and test under pressure and heat. He said he's done quite of few on Kubotas and Yanmars. Caused by heat - overheating or wrong fuel mixture (not sure wht he meant by that) or over working it. I haven't done any of that - temo guage is always 180 or less. This guy had quite a shop and just does a few of these a week - gonna have him re-do the valves - he recommended getting new valves (would be too thin after grinding) and springs...along with the rest of the seals guides etc. Going to take the injectors in for testing while they are out. One came out fairly easy with the help of a brass rod and a hammer. The other wouldn't come out. It's soaking in carl oil.
Now: in search of valves.....

I did locate couple used heads thanks to the help of the good folks here, but mine is repairable /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Found the other parts i needed to rebuild the head.
One of the injectors hasn't come out /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif - the guy working on the head said he spent considerable time and soaking and convincing.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif He unscrewed the injector, but the lower pre-combustion chamber is .stuck
I'm going to clean them up and re-install with new seals. Anything else I should do while I have the head off?
going to clean the carbon off the pistons...just some air and a puddy knife? get it TDC....
