Water Pump for Portable Water Tank

Well, it's not that I WANT to pump, I just don't see an alternative (short of going to a much larger tank). There just simply is not enough flow out of the tank into the boom.

It MAY work if I up the size of the outlet from the tank.
Have you considered the 2" bung flowing into a 8' boom of 1-1/2" or 2" pvc with about 20 1/4" holes. You may be surprised how fast that 50 gallons disappears.

I haven't tried going up to 2" yet. Right now I'm at 3/4". Going up to 2" would likely help with watering the driveway, but I'm still stuck with no way to water my small food plot, which is the main reason for the pump. I was hoping I could kill two birds with one stone.

You may want to just consider the dusty drive with the 55 gallon drum if my calculations of 1" of water on a food plot as small as 1 acre are correct because it is telling me it will take about 27,000 gallons. Nearly unbelievable so someone please tell me I can't do math anymore.

27,154 but you're close enough.

Well, my food plot isn't near an acre (< 1/8 acre), and I don't need anywhere near an inch of water on it. I just want enough water on it to dampen it and get a little moisture in it to hopefully start the germination process. I don't plan on keeping it watered, just enough to get it started. I'm thinking a few trips with the barrel (5 trips - 250 gallons) should be enough.

When there isn't enough moisture to germinate seed a common farming practice is to " dust it in " shallow and wait on the rain.

I used a plastic drum and the typical RV pump.
For me it worked just fine so I'd suggest trying that.
RV pumps, new, are in the $100. range with EBay fins about 50% less.

I have 2, 250 gallon sprayer tanks mounted on wagon running gear with a honda 2" water pump in between. It works good for pumping out of water wells, flooded basements and I can replumb it to wet down my driveway as well. The pump cost me 800$ CDN 10 years ago and has been working like a dream ever since. I pump out my well every spring, just because. It refills again fairly quickly and I only use it for garden watering, driveway wetting and tractor washing. I have a drilled well for the house.
