DJ54, Thanks for the thoughts on silicone usage; that's about what I was already thinking. Just asked because I saw some Ultra Permatex Gray, Blue, etc., etc., at the auto shop and it is supposed to be usable for water pump area. It would be fast to apply, but I was scared about it lasting or even sealing. Thus my question earlier.

Zebrafive, I did contact the seller and a gasket is included. But, that was after I asked my question per silicone, and I also went ahead and made a gasket based on the old pump. I was just afraid I'd not be able to form one. Taking "lots" of time to do so and it came out okay.

big bubba, I don't have a dealership anywhere near to try and get parts from; and with this darn covid19 scare on it's hard to even get anyone to take time to look into sourcing anything. I'm getting my parts from ebay or local napa if I can cross reference it and otherwise making my own if I can.

Bayfisher, I bought this off ebay and the gasket wasn't mentioned in the sales listing. I didn't think to ask the seller until later and did so and gasket is included.

At least you got experience making a gasket and know you can. Gasket sealing products have come a LONG way! I bought some that was specifically made for axles/gearboxes to seal a PTO driven gear box. It has worked great so far. I hope to never have to repair it again. But if I do, I hope it comes apart and cleans up better than if I used a gasket and gasket cement.

why not get the gasket from your dealership? no sense in reinventing the wheel

I was shocked lately when I priced gasket sets for a project.
Talk about inflation, but wow.

Guess the answer is that it takes tons of paper gaskets to pay a CEO's salary these days.

When I did my oil change I needed a crush ring to seal the drain plug.
Lacking a replacement I made a DIY using HD poly sheet stock* and sharpened a piece of tubing to fashion a hole punch.
Simply used snips for the outside trim.
That never leaked one drip!
LOL, I nervously checked daily for a while.

* I reasoned poly would crush/seal just as well as copper and that the oil sump would never get hot enough to cause problems
I later made up a reserve supply but using better methods that make them look factory made.

OK, auto parts had them in stock but @ $2-3,00 ea? inflation???

Recently ordered a 'kit' of crush rings/gaskets from China source.
You guessed it, about 100 assorted for about a penny ea. and in a nice storage box identified by size (in metric).
