According to the Texas rainfall calculator, the amount of roofing I have will average 41,100 gallons per year.
That's a big bucket. A trencher for the day and 350$ or so in piping?
I think it's worth it.

How big is your pond that you will be piping the water to? One acre-inch is 28,000 gallons of water and on a hot day you can lose 9000 gallons per acre to evaporation so it's hard for me to imagine how you can make a dent in it with 41,000 gallons per year. Runoff from one good rainstorm will dwarf what the pipe can carry in a year.

maybe you are right - but its a dent nevertheless . Op states he wants to use the water for other purposes first and if not used - it can go to a useful place - pond. I am all for saving every drop you can. Here in northeast you might not need every drop- but in texas ...... nuff said.

The pond is probably .75 acres. As stated above- this is North Texas- every drop counts.
