I'm looking for a tool, or a method, to clean up the male threads of my water spigots.

I started looking for dies online, but couldn't find one that is specialized for the hose fittings.

Where can I get a tool for this cleanup work? Or is there another way to fix the male threads using something other than a die?

I HAVE already tried lubricants with little success. The threads actually need to be cleaned/re-cut.

Thanks,
Martin

Probably cheaper to just replace, by the time you spend finding tool, work to clean/repair/re-install. Just my .02 cents.

Not sure if this will help... I have used a "Thread File" to restore slightly to moderately damaged threads. The one I've used is made from square stock and can repair 8 different pitches of thread.

Ditto what UR said.. I got my thread file from NAPA.. it's a wonderfull tool.

And since hose thread are just there to keep the connections held together, and the rubber gasket does the sealing.. you have quite a bit of leeway on fileing the threads.. Not like pipe thread where you rely on deformation of threads to get a seal.

In a pinch a small flat file.. or triangular file will work as well..

Depending how bad the threads are, you could buy a replacement female hose end out of metal and then slice it with a whizzer wheel or cut off wheel vertically, One or two slices, about 3/4 of the way down, then use it as a die to clean up the threads.

If it was mine though, as Soundguy said, the triangular file or thread file would come out.

If it was so bad that would not clean it up, lots of cussing would ensue as I crawled under the house to replace it :)

That is a valid question..... where does one get the tap/die for that stuff.... in theory.....

Garden Hose Thread is not Acme, nor pipe.
It's National Standard Thread - NH (NST) [for hoses]
Hose Size = 3/4" (GHT)
Outside Diameter = 1.0625
Threads per Inch = 11.5
