Per another thread of mine today, put in a door in the garage. Since we don't put our cars in the garage (outbuilding for that) per my wife, we will keep the actual garage door closed all the time. Due to the fact that we also "store" kittens for the humane society in the same garage, I was working on somthing other than A/C to keep the area in the garage "comfortable" (when it's 95 outside, either way with the garage door open or closed, being an unconditioned space, it gets hot).

I will be using a duct mounted "whoe house dehumidfier" (sp?) in the garage to take some of the humidity out of that area. The unit will take out about 125 gallons out of that area per week.

I will be running a drain line out through the garage, and with that amount of water, it would be a waste not to utilize it (the water).

First thought was putting a storage tank in ground with some sort of pump to dispearse the water, but cost wise would be "throwing my money away" by buying a storage tank then taking the time to burry it ("good" deal on the dehumidifier, no money lost there)

What I was thinking about was one of those plastic water storage tanks, placing it outside the garage (feeding it by the drainline), and thinking of mounting some sort of pump (to the storage tank) to it to access the water in a fast manner.

I know nothing about water storage tanks or water pumps (I did see them, water pumps. at the box stores) and was wondering of the best way to "harness" the water I will be getting from the garage.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Any help would be appreciative.

Thanks

If you already have an adequate water supply, almost anything you do will be much more expensive than just letting the water drain.

Agreed, that being said, since my wife is away, I'm watering all the indoor plants and garden, and outdoor plants as well. Can't believe how much water I'm going through just at night for watering.

Roughly over 400 gallons a month seems to much of a waste (particularly on dry months in the summer) to just "drain it", also with the deal on the dehumidifer, any money spent on storage or pumps is about what I would spend on the dehumidifier, so if I were to spend the money on a storage unit and some sort of pump, to some extent, I could justify it.

I think this is a perfect time to plant a couple of pecan.. or other desirable trees... and run a water hose drain outlet to them... gravity feed. You will be amazed how fast they grow when you are constantly providing a water dribble:) in the dry months....

How big of a storage tank are you thinking of? 125gal/week = less than 1 gal per hour. If I really, really, really needed this water I would bury a 10 gallon container, put the smallest sump pump I could find in it & plumb it to my storage tank with a hose. Then run a bottom drain with a petcock from the tank back to the 10 gallon container. When filling watering buckets, open the petcock & use the sump pump hose to fill.

Personally I would just run this things drain line to the nearest flower bed & forget about it
