A #4 conductor will still keep him under the recommended 5%, but I've never seen a 500 #4 extension cord

There are systems out there which do not require power, they use the heat of the ground to keep the water from freezing.

A internet search for enery free waterer earth tube will turn up a few results.

I agree with you I have run long distances on the submersible stock heaters I purchased from Nasco and had no problems,just use a very heavy outdoor extension cord,number 10 or 8 just my .02 worth,I am speaking strictly for myself.Any connections etc,tape them and keep everything away from a house or barn in case of a malfunction.

But you have peaked my curiosity about the heaters that are kept going with firewood. Where have you seen them or who makes them ? I like to read about alternative stuff like that.

I'm not sure where you could read about them on the internet. They have them at most feed stores and farm stores around here.

How about a 500 ft. roll of Romex and put ends on it???? If he has a backhoe, he could put it in the ground in conduit. If not, how about running the PVC conduit over the top of the ground and putting it in that till he can get it burried....
