Water Trash Pumps - Wet vs. Dry ??

Can anyone explain the differance between a wetprime and dryprime trash pump? Did some searching on the net and did not find a clear explaination. Seems the wet pumps cost more money and maybe handle larger solids but I would like to better understand which would be prefered for activities such as pumping out a pond. Also, does anyone have any experiance with Godwin brand pumps? TIA

I'm not an expert but I think that wet prime pumps are self priming. I think dry prime pumps have to be manually primed anytime they run out of water and suck air.
