Hello all,

I havent seen this product mentioned in the forums but I use it all the time. Its called Water Wetter by Redline oil.
It reduces water cooled engine's temprature 20-30 degrees
or more. I use it in my motorcylces which use to run hot,
and performance cars. Just add it to your coolant system and you will notice the drop after it circulates with use.
I hope this helps those with over heating problems...

They make a product for diesels and our applications the basic concept is to reduce surface tension of the water and allow heat to more easily pass.. seems to work evans is another popular product..

Ducati, I've seen it and even tried it in my old GMC V6 and still had a heating problem, obviously my problem was far more extensive then what water wetter could do. I wonder why one would use it if their vehicle/tractor is already cooling well. What I mean is, if the thermostat is holding the temp at say 195 degrees, a temperture that is typical, what would water wetter do to change that. It could not make it run cooler since the thermostat would prevent that. Now if the thermostat is a 195 degree stat and your going above that, theres an issue to deal with and water wetter may help address that. The other thing may be that the thermostat would not have to open as much with water wetter thereby decreasing the water flow and the subsequent radiators need to cool as much and thereby causing the fan clutch if the vehicle is equipped with such to engage as much. Did you get all that? Anyway, I use Redline in my tractor, I chose to go with Redlines 10W30, a diesel and gas oil recommend for diesels by Redline and Kubota. Great products with a website that informs. Rat...

Rat,
Its the temprature above the thermostat that should be the concern...
And since I've added it to a few machines, all exhibit about 30 degrees cooler than without Water Wetter, or pretty close to the thermostat opening temp....
I dont know why they created a product for diesels. I would rather have the additional properties that the standard Water Wetter provides, since most system contain glycol mix anyway.

from their web site:
"This provides significantly better coolant contact in the cylinder head and can reduce coolant and cylinder head temperature by as much as 10-20°F. This product will not lower the temperature of the cooling system below the thermostat temperature and will be effective when the thermostat is wide open, such as heavy traffic of climbing long grades. I have tried it in my 99 5.3 Silverado, no difference. It still runs about 195+. I replaced the factory thermostat with a 180 deg unit. I was hoping to keep it in the 180 deg range since there is a noticable power difference when cooler.

Basically what this stuff does is help prevent steam from building up on the metal surface. Trouble is, in my case anyway, its not hot enough to be a problem.

In fairness they said it probably wouldn't do much in the temp range I'm running.

When climbing a long grade in the motorhome, I can see the gauge go up--in my case not a lot, but I know it's a big problem in some RV's and some eingines (the older 454's in RV's are well known for their cracked manifolds). I would think this is where the product would be of great benefit.

Most cars in SCCA sports car racing do not use coolants other than water. One reason is that coolants are really slippery and a hazard if they get on the track. However, almost evryone uses water wetter as a substitute because of all the good things it does for plain water. That said, I don't use it in my street vehicles because I've never had any problems.

There is more variety in oil choices, but I get the impression that more racers use Redline oils than all the other oils combined. Almost everyone uses Redline transmission and differential lubes. Once again, however, I don't use any of it on the street.

What it seems to boil down to is that if you absolutely have to have the ultimate performance, you use Redline products.
