WD hitch advice

Bones1,
I have the Equal-i-zer and I love it. It was so easy to install that I did it myself in about an hour. The hitch works so well that I get absolutely no trailer sway at all. I tow a 31' Jayco Dual Slide Bunkhouse Travel Trailer with it and I have absolutely no white knuckle driving.
The cool thing about is that it's really easy to hook up to. Connecting at any angle is great too. I actually had to hook up at an angle last week and I had no real problem.
I recommend it to anyone and everyone who needs weight distribution and/or anti sway.
Oh! you can get a free video from their website. The video is a little lame but it does show you how it works and how easy it is to hitch up.

Marine1, thank you and that's exactly what I need to hear. Can't get a better endorsement than that. Thanks for making my decision.

Make sure your tow vehicle will work with a weight distributing hitch.

Some vehicles specifically do NOT recommed the use of WD hitches.

Yes sir it will. It's a 2006 Silverado 4x4 with towing option.I'm pulling a 18ft trailer, 2000lbs and 4000 lbs in tractor.Probably don't need it but I think I should get one for safety.

Your load sounds like mine and I can tell you that WD hitch makes a huge difference. Also pay special attention to the placement of the tractor onthe trailer to assure a 10% tongue weight. Too little tongue weight will lead to the deadly trailer sway.

You specify silverado 4x4 but is it a half ton? My 98 silverado 4x4 is a half ton and I am required to use WD after 500 lbs of tongue weight. Your need for WD is larger with a half ton but still very decent with a larger truck.

The WD system can be used on other trailers as well. I have used mine to also tow a 26 foot travel trailer and it worked like a champ.

Highbeam,it's a 1/2 ton 4x4 with the HO 310 hp all aluminum 327 engine(5300 in GM jargon) and 3.42 gears.I hope it will tow it, thats why I bought it.On the hitch it reads 5000lbs max or 10,000 with WD setup.Book says 7700lbs.I have given up a long time ago trying to figure out mfg's tow ratings.Get WD, hook up and tow.

I'm not familiar with that hitch, but like Eaz-Lift, Reese and several others the've been around a long time. If they didn't work well, they would have been gone a long time ago.

Don't overload the pick-up bed because then to keep the truck level, the hitch will have to compensate for the additional weight and sag from the truck.

Your load sounds like it's within the capability of the truck, but those tow ratings are at lea level. If you plan on any high mountains or steep hills you need to plan accordingly.

Good advice you received here. Good luck.

You should be allright Bones, the load is nearing the upper end of comfortable 1/2 ton capability though. The 3.42 gears will make towing without using overdrive a must. Don't be afraid to let that 327 sing. I noticed that my 350 really seems to come alive after 3500 rpm.
