Finally broke down and bought a 135 gasser...and realized I may have bought a big project. Everything worked fine on the test drive of course, but after an hour of mowing I noticed a more than acceptable amount of oil dripping from the weep hole under the bell housing, 30+ drops in a minutes time. Before I could address that problem, I topped the oil off and mowed again. This time I've got a steady drip of gas coming from behind the carb. Don't have an operator manual yet, so guessed the fuel shut off may be on the sediment bowl??? L-shaped, was pointed down, turned quarter turn counter-clockwise. Didn't affect the drip...help...please? Its a 4 cyl continental, '74. Thanks

HI. On my 1959 Oliver the valve was in fact on the sediment bowl, only had to turn it right side like a screw to shut it off (might need a few turns ). I f your carb is leaking, it is possible that your float hung somewere in the carb. body and still sending gas. Try to hit gently your carb body with the **hand side of a screwdriver** the vibration usually free the float that is controling the point ( I do not know the english term of a POINTEAU in french, sorry but I,m french talking) in the carb. Good luck . Roger
For the oil drip I do not know what you mean with the term **bell housing** ( again my english is not perfect , je m,excuse (sorry):D)but usually oil drip comes with a bad gasket and is worst when oil is hot.....

roger-- if you're interested-- le pointeau en aglais c'est le "float needle" (and "seat") dans le carbureteur. Don't know what the bell housing would be called, but that's the large, metal, bowl-shaped piece at the rear of the engine that covers the clutch mechanism. An oil leak there is usually due to a rear crankshaft seal on the engine. What is it called in French?

HI, I,m from Ste-Sophie near St-Jerome , 30 miles north of Montreal, Quebec. Where we live, our lot is 60 acres and we also have a 145 acres wooden lot 100 mile north (+- 45 miles north of Mont-Tremblant)If you know us very good :D you shurely know that a windshield is (in french ) a windshield  Usually I don,t even know the french terms they mean nothing to me:thumbsup: If you are interrested in the translation of your crankshaft....probably ..le joint d,etancheite du villebrequin:confused2: is it helping you:D:D Have a nice day Irving.

Grammar's probably terrible now! But I like languages, kind of a hobby.

Sounds like you have a nice spot up there. I used to lead school trips to Montreal every spring; too expensive now, unfortunately.

dwhiteykc-- Sorry for the thread hijack! Have you been able to get your 135 running OK? Sounds like a rear seal leaking oil, but if it's not too bad you can probably get by by just adding oil when needed. Did you get the fuel leak stopped?

There are some guys here who are really sharp on 135s....

I have a gasser as well, you might have a closer look at the O ring on the sed. bowl it some times doesn't llike to sit in the right place and make sure the bowls tight. Also, have a look at those rubber fuel lines, from the tank and around the petcock, they brake down inside.

Sorry I don't know anything about gas tractors, mais c'est très agréable de lire un peu de français de temps en temps ! I think we use the same image of a bell to describe the clutch housing, "la cloche d'embrayage".

Thanks roger4400 - the L-shaped screw on the sediment bowl did the trick. Until I can stop mowing long enough to diagnose the problem and fix it - I'll just crank it closed when I park it! The leak seemed to be originating from the engine side of the carb, maybe behind the horizontal shaft attached to the choke cable - a guy I know said one of his tractors did that & was due to sediment trapping under one or both of the floats in the carb, so rather than waste money rebuilding or replacing it, he simply takes one more step to start/stop by opening/closing the fuel line from the bowl.

Windshield is 'parbreeze', en francais. LOL

and google would probably translate parbreeze into, by the wind.

Have a good day!
