I put CGM on this Spring (about the first of March). So far so good, but it is early, and the CGM got a little help from Mother Nature. We had 5 days of hard freeze (teens and low 20's) after 4 weeks of 80's (and lows in the 50's). Most anything that was germinating got frozen and died.
CGM is effective only as a pre-emergent -- it won't kill weeds already growing, it will just keeps seeds from sprouting.
The first time it rains after your CGM is down, the smell is not pleasant, but it goes away in a couple days.
By the way, from my research, there is absolutely no difference between feed grade CGM from the mill and the product labeled for weed control. The only difference is a licensing fee paid to Iowa State University, who patented the application.
