Tractor
Looking to buy one
I built a ballast box last fall for my TC40DA last year for front end loader work. It worked great, i felt it may be a little heavy but i was unsure. I weighed the tractor with 4wheel wieghts, loader, bucket, unloaded tires and ballast box and it came in at 7000lbs, then unhooked the ballast box did the math and the box loaded with gravel weighed 1520 lbs. Im not sure is this too much for my tractor to handle without doing damage to the tractor? I still only have it primed and am waiting to add additional items to it but i wanted to find out the weight first incase i had to do some serious modifications first.
Thanks

I have a TC40D and I know my 3 point max weight is supposed to be 2000 pounds although it has lifted more, so lifting your ballast box should't be a problem. The problem I had before I built my counter weight I was using my bush hog as a counter weight and the weight of it swing back and forth broke a weld that holds sway restraints (not sure what to call them right now) to lower 3 point arm. My counter weight is about 900 pounds plus I have rim guard in the rear tires and that seems about perfect for my tractor. My land is a little hilly and the paths across it aren't really flat so I get a fare amount tossing back and forth if I try to go to quick. I do have to recommend that if your tractor is bouncy in the back have rim guard tire ballast installed in the rear tires it makes the tractor extremely stable and if you keep your wheel weights on you might not even need to bother with the weight box 95% of the time. Plus it can be lighter so it's a lot less stress on the 3 point components. A friend of mine has a backhoe on his Kubota so he had plenty of weight but it was really bouncy and a little scary to drive over rough ground. He finally filled the rear tires and it made such a difference he wished he had done it when he bought the tractor.

Shady Brook, I remember reading a post where someone broke a 3pt mount or something. This is why i was affraid of overloading. I dont have a lot of hills mostly ditches to climb and loader work. I wanted to load the tires but rimgaurd was around $500, i went with the wheel weights hoping that would do it. I was not happy with it. The ballast box so i could unhook if it was sinking into the yard too much. I come to the conclusion the rimgaurd is in the future, so i bought the hydrualic add on kit and put it on so i wouldnt have to worry about handling the tire full of rim gaurd.
I will still keep the ballast box but i am going to modify so its more of a multi use box with weight.
