Just wondering how much concrete to pour into my home made weight box for my JD650, Cat 1 and 16 HP?
I'm at 360 lbs, plus my carrier and quick hitch I'd guess 460 - 480 lbs total right now? I have a #67 FEL rated at 550 lbs loaded bucket. ?? BG in Iowa

Sounds about right to me...Do you have the manual for the loader? It usually tell you in there...

We had a set of homemade wheel weights on our 650. Maybe 125# plus a 4' box blade and never had any problems. The more weight you add, the better your traction will be though. JC

You're probably OK right where you are, but if your ballast equals your loader capacity, you'd be better off.
Also, remember that listed capacity is at maximum lift height. Your loader can carry considerably more lower to the ground. That's where you'll carry most of your loads. And, if you're breaking into a pile of dirt, the more weight, the better (at least that's what I've found).
Of course, any reasonable weight on the 3PH will improve the traction.

And, always remember...install the loader first, then the ballast!

I had 500# on the 3pt of my JD 750 (yanmar). I had lots of traction and it felt safe/stable. Occasionally I'd pick the rear end up with the FEL (bushhog brand).
