I agree. Go with the bigger trailer and axles. I have 20ft trailer with brakes on both axles. I can get everything on the trailer without having to chain my ramps. Also, look into the type of axle. I believe that there are two types. One is independent so to speak, and the other is straight. For example, on my trailer, if I get one tire on the front axle up on a curb, the rear wheel raises up also and if free spinning. I understand this type is better for road hauling where the majority of the time you will be on smooth roads, freeways, etc. The other type with independent type axles will con't to carry load even when the front and rear are uneven.
Also, spend a little extra and get the best brake controller you can. I have a Progany (sp) and it works great. I have had other brands and they are not nearly as good. With my 6000lb Mahindra, you really can tell the difference.
Also, consider leveling bars. I have them and would not tow a tractor without them now. Really does distribute the weight for better control. Yes, this will cost you a few bucks, but when on the road at 55-60 mph I would not tow any other way. There is no better place to put your money than on safety. Thats my opinion anyway.
