Weighted tires vs Non Weighted tires

you mean like acctual wheel weights instead of loading your tires? or do you mean having any weight in/on your tires at all vs. none at all?

It really depends on your use of the tractor, and also the type of terain you are on. i don't have loaded tires BUT that is because i don't need loaded tires. Remember tho, once the weight in in them it is in them all the time.

I took my wheel weights off for about 2 weeks once. Haven't had them back off since. Not sure of any circumstance where I don't want extra weight in the back...even mowing. I hit some pretty steep slopes, though.

Not sure about filling the tires. Sounds like a pain. Of course I'm sure it looks better to see the pretty orange rim instead of a black doughnut all the time. I wonder if I even had my tires filled that I wouldn't STILL run the weights just so I don't feel obligated to run my BoxBlade when doing FEL work. As it is, weights have worked out fine for me. But I would NOT run nothing.

Filling the tires is simpe enough. I cannot imagine not having filled tires. And even with filled tires, I don't like doing loader work without a counterweight on the back, like a box blade. If wheel weights weren't so expensive I'd probably have them too.

I guess for really nice finish mowing, with turf tires and soft soil one would not want filled tires.

I agree, it depends on the tractor use.

My B3030 has rimguard filled rear tires and it helps greatly for FEL use, plowing, etc. It also places the counter weight center of gravity down lower than say 3 point or front end weights mounted to the tractor frame. This helps the tractor stability. I do not use the B3030 for mowing though.

My BX that I do use for mowing does not have filled tires as the extra weight is not good on the lawn. That to would also depend on the soil conditions. My yard has a high water table so the ground can be fairly soft at times.

I like weights but not loaded tires other then as a last resourse. I've seen to many times in tests that talk of the disadvantages doing field work or constant pull loads that the loaded tires hinder the traction. I've also listened to my customers when we have set them up with the solid weights vs the filled tires and it is rare that we've had to add the fluid.

I'll take wheel weights and counter balance weights to offset the load on the front axle when loaded anyday.

On my Massey 2310 my ag tires are filled and it works great when pushing dirt around. I have ordered a set of turf tires and wheels that I will more than likely leave air only. Part of my property is a fairly steep hill that I mow and unless I feel the need for additional weight for balance or traction.... I will leave them air only.:D

So, what is the theory here ...

Pros of weighted tires/wheels
- Improved performance in FEL-work and ground-engaging activities
- Increased traction
- Increased stability (lower and increased center of gravity)

Cons of weighted tires/wheels
- Damage soft soil/yards

What else am I missing? What about doing work on hill-sides and slopes?

Regarding weighted-tires or wheel-weights ...
I'm trying to understand why someone would want weighted-tires over wheel-weights ... unless you ALWAYS want the additional weight and can live with the cons of having that weight. I would think the convenience/ease of adding/removing the wheel-weights if/when you need to adjust the weight makes the decision easy.

Just trying to understand ...

My B2710 w/ turf tires was too bouncy with air only. I added fluid to fill the rear tires about 1/2 full - approx. 160#/tire. That really helped reduce the bouncy ride and it feels more stable - lower center of gravity. It is also good for loader work. And it is still easy on the turf.
