Are suitcase weights brand specific? I need some weights for the front of my Case-IH DX-33 and a friend has a several different sets, but said he didn’t think any of them would work as they are for John Deere and Kubota. He told me new suitcase weights are about 3 bucks a pound, so I’m trying to keep my eye out for a used set, but I don’t know what fits what. The front end is kinda light if you raise the finish mower on hillsides so I probably need about 200 pounds in the front. Any help would be appreciated.

How they mount and attach to the front weight bracket is somewhat brand specific.

However, take a look at those weights...a little thought and creativity, maybe you can adapt them.

I think they should be around $1 per pound. At least that was what I was told about a month ago. Also, they don't get cheaper as they get older so old vs. new they all cost the same.

$1 a pound? Maybe JD weights are more expensive. I have to go to the dealer to get some Ultra Hy-Tran oil. I’ll ask what a new set costs. I see used sets for about 60 to 100 bucks for the 100 pounders. But when my friend told me 3 bucks a pound for new ones, I was trying to come up with a used set.

I tried to buy some wheel weights at a tractor bone yard a few years back. The owner priced them to me at the same exact price as I could buy them new. When I complained, he mentioned the fact that the new weights didn't weigh one ounce more than his old ones.

Got me.......................

I priced some at NH... 50$ for 50#.. still too high for me.

"Collector weights"....LOL!

We all get hooked on a few of those "I just gotta have it" deals.

Boneyard I was referring to wanted $3.25 per lb. for Deere wheel weights. Yellow paint extra.

He still has his weights, and I still have my $1950.

$1 a pound for NH weights aren’t bad. Case weights should be about the same. I need them to help me steer on hillsides, as I can’t use the brake to turn with the hydro tranny. Unless I disconnect the brake cruise shutoff switch. Not sure I want to do that.

Don't know if you're looking for something "pretty" or just functional but when I needed weight on my old IH 340 Utility I used to have, I came up with something that was nearly free. A friend had a mangled bumper off a dump truck that was nothing more than channel iron - about 8" wide or so and I cut a section of it off and bolted it to the front of the tractor. I then checked along the railroad tracks in my home county and acquired several pieces of the irons that bolt the rails together and stacked these in the "bumper" channel and used 2 short pieces of chain wrapped around to hold the pieces in the channel. Just used bolts, washers & nuts to connect the chain ends and tighten it all up. Never weighed it but I'm sure I added approx. 150 to 200 lbs. and it was relatively compact and made an excellent bumper for the tractor. It kept the front wheels on the ground when cutting the hills with the bushog.

For 'originality'.. the correct weights do dress up that old cub and make her look sharp.. however when i go to sell her.. I know I won't get a penny extra for those weights....even though I paid for them like they were precious metal or something /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
