OK, it is too late to call Terry, but I have this strange leak I finally tracked down.

It is back in the acumulator / charging valve...

There is a nut, with a screen on the top of it... On the top of the accumulator.

I stopped the engine. Had the arms up with a bucket attached so I could see what was going on with a leak up front (brake line had worked a bit loose) and then went back to the engine compartment and notice oil coming out of that stop screen. When I droppped the arms the oil stopped so it is clearly some sort of pressure relief.... I can get pictures ( maybe) and post but I was hoping someone know right off the bat.

Carl, if it's on the opposite side of where the hyd hose hooks up, your accumulator bladder is leaking. Accumulators are like a shock absorber, or a pressure tank. They can be either or both. The non-hyd side is charged with nitrogen. There is a bladder between the hyd oil and the nitrogen. This bladder must be leaking. They can not fly them out charged. If you need it in a hurry, you'll have to get it charged locally. They can ground ship them charged. You may have to pay a hazardous shipping fee, maybe not. It's been a while since I ordered one.

Still no movies? It's going to get boring around here if you ever get back to work.

Just got off the phone with Terry. For all of you who might have this happening there is now a kit released to fix this problem.

The kit is a hose, fitting, drillbit, tap... Basically you take out this screened nut and run a hose to your tank (that is the drill and tapping part of the show).

This leak occurs when the bucket is raised (or pressure is on it) and the pressure bleeds off.

I had my mower up the other day looking at the blades with the engine off so that is where some oil came from as well.

As I do not want to drain my oil tank, I am going to pass on this upgrade till a later date.

As for movies, no. Things suck in Hollywood, but I am getting a bunch of work done up here. Anyone want to swing by and help do some roofing?

Carl-
just about every post you make is ruining my preconceptions of a Hollywood film producer.

Roofing, pulling hydraulic hoses, tractors, etc.

I think they might kick you out of the union if this continues...

I was raised on a 'ranch" in Wyoming so I get this lifestyle. That said, yeah. Lots of people who are in the business buy the work I choose to do on my own.

So, I went to a meeting the other day with some bigshot. I tried to pee on his shoes discussing my 40 acres of heaven farm. He promptly told me about his 1200 acre spread in Jackson Hole.

But if things don't change soon I am going to have to move in with one of you guys. Hope you are prepared.. I bring baggage...

Bring the PT and the mopar, you can come here. :D

So I guess that wasn't an accumulator. Must be something else.

Or, it's a half-arsed way to cover up a problem. I have seen manufacturers that would put a tank drain on the air end of a single acting cylinder. That way, when the seal leaks, the bypassing fluid drains back to tank rather than spilling out.

Dear Carl,

Since you just spoke with Terry, what is the piece? Is it an accumulator, or a hydraulic shock absorber? Or a pressure relief valve for extreme overpressure? Or...

Curious minds want to know...

There is always someone with a bigger spread, but as they say, "Size isn't everything".

All the best,

Peter

I had the same problem with my 1445. Oil was comming out of the breather on tha charging valve. It only started after I had over 50 or so hours on the valve. A seal inside the valve had blown. After replacing the charging valve three times and finding the same problem with each of them I finally tracked down the problem. The drain line which connects the charging valve to the drain on the draft control located on the side of the fuel tank was not open. The port on the draft control was a blind hole and not connected to the drain. This was causing system pressure to build up in the drain line of the charging valve which caused the seal to fail. Using 1/8 inch pipe fittings I 'Tee'd' in to the drain from the draft control and the problem went away. It seems that the manifold on the draft control was not drilled through to the drain.

Peter, BEK.. I am not so smart with all these hydraulic things. In my manual, they call it a Accumulator / Charging Valve Assembly. It is a 2NPT Hollow Hex Plug.

Terry said that they were now running a hose back to the tank from this port so if there is bleed off, it goes back to the tank. he said it is nothing to worry about, nothing is blown or worn....

That said, I had him send me a special bolt for my mower (A flat faced hex bolt that holds the whole thing together) and he sent me something so bizarre I am afraid to ask...

Will call him tomorrow...

I bet he hires all the work out though.

Oh and that baggage might respond to a little therapy :)
