Howdy folks,

I haven't been on for a while but I guess I'll be back fairly frequently now.

I just bought a 1972 Ford 4000 tractor. Three cylinder diesel, single hydraulics, showing 2800 hours on a non-working tach. It has just been repainted and runs well, plus it doesn't smoke, so I'm pretty pleased with it.

It's got a bastardized headlight system so I decided to replace the tach and wiring harness and I'm in the middle of that right now. It got dark and cold so I'll finish up in the morning.

I'd like to get a front end loader for it. What size do you recommend? Any suggestions or specific items to watch out for? Also, do you know where I can get a ROPS for this tractor?

Sean, I can't answer any of your questions as I don't know much about your machine. But, I can say CONGRATULATIONS and welcome aboard! Tractors are wonderful things, that can provide much enjoyment in your daily life. Get yourself a service manual, change all the fluids, and put her to work. 2800 hrs isn't to much on a diesel engine if it was cared for, so you should have many hours of working time ahead of you. Not sure of what size loader it will take, maybe check out Woods, Wallenstein, or some of the other mfgs to see what they recommmend. Its a great tool for sure, and once you have one, you can't do without. What tasks do you have planned? Maybe you can post a picture, and best of luck.

I've got a Ford 3000 I've had for three or four years. When I was shopping for a ROPS for it I went to the New Holland dealer and they said they could order and install one. Cost about $1000, as I recall, which was a couple of years ago. I have put off actually getting it done--probably is more now.
