weld hooks on auger boom for weight... comments?

Looking for ideas to weigh down auger bit.

I guess I've been spoiled over the years with the double acting hydraulic action on my International 300 utility 3-pt hitch. Never had a reason to complain in augering out fence post holes. Of course my YM2310D does not have downward pressure other than the static weight of the implement. Considering welding some hooks on the boom near the auger gearbox, then hang formed concrete weights on both sides of the hook. Interested in forum comments if anyone has found this to be useful, or other ideas also welcome.

I have had the same problem. I use a long metal pipe between the boom and gear box top area. If extra weight is needed I have my son-in-law lay on the pipe to give extra downward pressure on the auger.
