Hi,

Was hoping to get a little guidance on my electric Scheppach HX520 log splitter. The ram was creeping forward and there was back pressure on the lever when splitting a log which only recently started. After a lot (LOT!) of reading online I decided to take out the control lever shaft (see image). The end has come off it (the shaft actually sheared), but also see now the collar that slides back and forward likely came off when I removed the shaft from the housing. Hoping I can fish that out without the need to remove the back of the housing.

My question is this: does that little end cap do anything other than hold the collar on the shaft? I only have an AC stick welder that's great for thick metal but will make a messy job of this, so I'd weld, then grind it back smooth but am not sure if this will cause oil flow issues etc.?

If you search for "Log splitter repairs/problems to AL-KO and other Chinese models Part 1" on youtube this guy had the same issue but has the collar and braised the end cap back on.

Thanks!

Thanks, not sure what happened there but it's fixed now!

Don't think I would try to stick weld, may be braze or silver solder where you have better control over heat and fusion material (filler) control....

I agree with DL, I'd try to braze it or silver solder. If you're good with a TIG welder, you could TIG braze it, maybe.
