Thanks for the info ACZLAN

1302. Vehicles exempt from registration.
The following types of vehicles are exempt from registration:
(11) Any trailer or semitrailer, including but not limited to non-self-propelled special mobile equipment, to be used primarily for off highway use and only operated incidentally upon the highway.

I think the welder would fall under that description.
The trailer is built well and yes I did add new lights so I know there will not be a problem with visibility . I did build a utility trailer a few years ago and it was a real pain to get a title for it. I really don't want to do it again if I don't need to. Thanks for the replies and the good information.

In PA. you only have to fill out some forms and take it to an enhanced inspection station get it inspected (even if its under 3000lbs) get them to finish paper work and take pictures.

if the trailer only has the said peice of equipment permanently mounted on it, and carries no other "cargo", you do not need plates or a reg or a title. lights, on the hand, while not required, are always a good idea for visibility issues. i am putting lights on the back of my splitter, just so it is abundantly clear what i am doing.

Thatt's a nice thing about Fla. Under 1K, built yourself, go to a tag agency, pay the money, walk out with tag.

It is relatively east to get a 'home made' registration in NJ. They issue a serial number and that can be transfered to PA...

When I worked for the construction company in PA the master mechanic had a tow behind welder w/ no plates. Air compressors were the same BUT the trailer for the concrete saws and pup rollers had plates...We moved backhoes and roadgraders w/ out plates too...

In NJ air compressors, etc, need "Cont. Eq In Transit" plates...
