I wanted to start a new thread which is related but different. I may go to the dealer tomorrow and let him re-weld the rim hub but not sure if this is a smart move. The hub inside the rim has two broken welds and a crack where the weld held. Is this even repairable. I need my tractor but don't want to destroy my machine by having the rim totally fail while I'm driving it. The rim is on back order and waiting to find out when parts will come in. Thinking of just waiting for the part but I'd actually rather pay and buy one piece rims. Is it possible to buy after market rims for LS tractors. The front rims are all one piece as it should be but I really don't like the setup on the LS back rims. wheel.JPG

If new rims are coming, I'd weld those up to get you out of a bind, you're not going cross country at great speeds...are you :). Looks like the crack was caused by a crappy weld on the lug at 10:00 letting go.
Be aware tho, do not let anyone weld to a rim with the tire mounted, look up pyrolysis Tire Explosion - YouTube and IIS 8.5 Detailed Error - 44. - Not Found

That doesn't appear to me to be a broken weld, it looks like the rim itself has cracked. It could be the metal is too light for the job or it may have been defective in some way. I'm sure it could be welded or otherwise repaired but I don't think I'd trust the rest of the metal in that wheel.

It looks to me as if there's no fusion, could be wrong tho. So you're thinking the metal has pull out of the spoke?, hard to really tell. I realize the rim is cracked but I was thinking that was caused by the flexing once the other weld had let go...............Mike.

I would have no issue with using a welded rim. Stuff like that does not fail immediately. Cracks first and slowly comes apart. Just keep an eye on it, but if done well, should be as good as new.

Is this under Warranty? If so, the dealer should not be charging you for a temporary fix while waiting for the wheel.

If I was 50 miles from corporate like you are, I'd have loaded in my vehicle and paid them a visit by now.

Myself, I'd weld it up... but I've got the resources available to me to do so, not everyone does. A quality repair will be as good as the new one from a strength aspect, maybe better.

I agree with diesel crawler, just have it welded and get along with your planed jobs.
