Welding a SSQA plate onto pallet forks

Here's the SSQA that I had retrofitted by the dealer on my 2008 Mahindra 5525.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Max roll back on my forks when on the ground (if the Android TBN app actually attaches the photo)...

Sorry but your pic didn't show.

After measuring my fork mounts, I think I can cut off the ears starting at where they're welded to the top cross member down to and just below the bottom pin holes. That will set the bottom of the plate away from the fork's frame about 3". That should give me some extra roll back. The remaining parts of the ears that are still attached to the frame should give me a solid base to weld the plate to. That's the way I have it pictured anyway.

I got a good start on converting my pin on forks to SSQA today.

Removing the forks from the frame made it easier to lay it flat on the ground so I could measure everything.

I made the cuts on each bracket just under the bottom pin holes to the top of the frame's cross member. That's going to give me over 3" of extra roll back.

Cutting the 1/4" steel wasn't that easy but it seemed to go okay and 4 disks were used to cut them off.

I don't know why but the outer ears were cut 1/16 to 1/8" shorter than the inner ears. I guess it was the position I was in when I cut them. I think they're close enough that I can fill everything in when I weld the plate on.

Looks good. You kept the plate parallel with the holes, so your rollback should be the same.
Weld that baby on and enjoy the SSQA!

Thanks. I think it's going to turn out okay. I just tacked it together and checked the rollback and it stayed pretty much the same as the original. I hope to finish the welding in the next few days.

It worked this time. Thanks for the pic. Yes, I can see how the plate is on there parallel with the frame and limits your rollback somewhat but if it works...
