welding and MRI

I had a MRI a few years back. They did the X-ray examine because the things I messed with. They scanned me the first time and I could not sit still so they set another appointment. The noise was terrible and the room was cold. The noise to me was like being in an old trash can and someone banging on it!!

I asked a good friend that worked at GE Medical HQ in Pewaukee, Wi. He worked on them and did wild safety videos. I asked him what the heck is the noise. He basically said it was the magnetic fields collapsing and their were no moving parts except the head and table you are on. I asked him about the metal in skin concern and like Danno said it would take it from your body!!

Suggestion, if you don't like being in a noisy trash can for 45 minutes. Wimp-out like I did and get some meds!!

Its not so much the welding, but the grinding of metal that is the concern with an MRI. But grinding is often correlated with welding, so they ask about both.

Think about all those metal grindings you get on you and your clothes and how easy it is to get them up your nose, in your hair, in your eyes.

When I went for an MRI, I warned them I might have some BB-gun shot lodged in me because I was shot with a Daisy 10-pump a few times as a kid and it clearly pierced the skin and we never thought the BB's came out of my arm and my back.

The technician said it would take an hour to get me an x-ray, so they said how about we just go for it and if you feel anything funny, press the stop-bulb.

Must have been non-steel BB's or else they were no longer there - I didn't feel anything.

In my line of work we do a lot with healthcare. The first time I had to do some work in an MRI room (a new MRI machine), the technician setting setting up the machine asked if I had any titanium tools. Of course I said no. I was by the door just inside the room with a screwdriver in my hand and the force pulling on it was incredible. Another guy at a different hospital had a ladder snatched out of his hand from just the small amount of steel in it.

I hope it was a Kubota pulling it out!:D I had a shoulder that was called "Frozen shoulder" Basically scar tissue in there so an MRI was done. Stupid old Kid stunt in Junior High I have shrapnel from one of those Aluminum CO2 cartridges used in BB guns in my arm. They asked if I had any metal in me. I told them aluminum pieces from 36 years ago. They weren't too concerned. I was worried my arm was going to flip up and bang the MRI tube. It didn't...
