Welding with standby generator as power source.

I've seen a few things recently that got me thinking about getting a carry all frame which I can use to move a pallet around. Mounting my standby generator on the pallet would make it much easier to move it around as needed. I thought, why stop there? I can mount a small air compressor on there and power it from the generator. And, I can do the same with my HF flux core wire welder. I started envisioning a portable workshop I could use where power isn't available - electricity, compressed air, welding, tools, etc.

I checked the manuals for my gen and my welder to see how they matched up. I started seeing things like "only use generator with 8' grounding rod", "Use GFCI", "don't touch (the?) ground" and "Don't use the welder outside". My guess is the vast majority of standby generators sold out of big box stores never see a grounding rod (in the manner described in the manual). It feels like some of these statements may be from overzealous lawyers, but I don't want to make a bad assumption. Can anyone point me to a reliable source of information so I can make an informed decision on this?

And, I can do the same with my HF flux core wire welder.

I have the same little sparky and an 8250W Generator, but I've never considered coupling the two. Just never had a reason to. As long as little sparky doesn't get rained on or get wet feet, I don't see an issue.

I have set my Lincoln arc welder on my pto generator trailer and used it as a portable several times over the years.

I've run my 200 amp wire feed many times off my pto generator, to exercise the generator. Running the generator with a small Kubota...

Never have a problem doing so, and it welds very nice...
