Vermeer now owns controling interest in Welger. Next week Vermeer will release the Welger Sales Program for the USA.Received a sales brochure to-day on the Welgar small square baler, they appear to be a great machine, has anyone had any experience with them.

The Vermeer round balers do not have a chopper on their balers. Remember that 90% of hay harvested in the USA is dry matter hay. A Vermeer baler will take hay faster than a Welger. Any manufacturers baler with a chopper will take more HP to operate as well it does slow down the production. The Welger round balers do give Vermeer dealers a baler with a chopper. In my area (the netherlands) contractors use only Welger small balers. No other brand comes even close !!
I know a contractor that had 3 New Holland balers, 1 for hay, 1 for straw and one for backup.
With the Welger, they didnt have to change settings for straw or hay, and they didnt need the backup baler because the Welger just went on, year after year !
In round balers, they are equal against competition.

it's arguable that the tines were better than an auger....?
Welger produces and sells 3000 round balers a year. We all live in a world market because most of the equipment we use is made from places all over the world. On Friday I was a demo of a 435 Welger baler. In silage, bale density increases up to 20% when using blades in the intake... If it spits out 20% less bales an hour, it doesnt mean its actual capacity is less....![]()
