After last week's rain and snow the water level in our primary spring (the one still connected to the house) has gone from non-existent to two-thirds full! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Not sure, but I think digging out the old abandoned well up another hill and preparing to reconnect it to the main water supply line might have scared it into being more cooperative! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif And then, just to add an element of confusion, an old 1/2" piece of battered metal pipe sticking out of the ground by my woodshop, which is about a quarter mile from either spring, began spouting water! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif This pipe has been there for as long as the Wife and I can remember, and I never got around to digging it up. But now fresh water is spurting out of it in fits and starts! Not sure what to do with it, but if it continues into winter it'll turn my driveway into a sea of ice.

Boondox, cut that thing off straight, thread it, and put a cap on it! You may figure out where it comes from someday, and want to use it!

Scruffy -- The metal is very soft with only minimal oxidation, and being as old as it is I was wondering about the lead content. Is there an easy way to test this?

I've seen lead paint test kits at hardware/home supply places. Maybe that would work.

MossRoad probably has the easiest way to test for lead content....won't tell you exactly what amount, but should tell you if it is present.....I was thinking more for an outdoor usage, where that wouldn't be quite so criticle.

Thanks! I'll give that a try. Sunday morning I walked up the hill to the abandoned springhouse and pulled the intake pipe completely out of the water and tied it off. That was the only possible source of running water I could think of. Now, 24 hours later, the pipe is still spurting water all over the place...so I guess that wasn't the source. Boy, am I glad I decided not to put my firewood shed on that spot! /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Morning Pete,
Glad to hear you got your water back. Down here in Fairfield most of the springs haven't come back. Glad I did a drilled well./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I'm still trying to get up that way but with two little boys even a trip to the market is a big undertaking. Take care,
Al

Al -- Had a killing frost this morning, so all the trees are bare and we're in full blown stick season. This is our time away from tourists, so is a good time to visit and get things done. Let me know if you ever get the chance.
