Well, the saga doesn't end. Putting the mower back together and surprise... My bearing issue may have been playing out for a while. The shaft on my center hub is worn in the bearin area. Very significant play. Calling tazwell., hope to god they are cheap.

One other note... My bearings are the open kind. Each shaft can hold a serious amount of grease, although according to my mechanic friend, Thevgrease spins out to he bearings so filling the void is not necessary. But IMO the upper bearing si going to have a hard time getting grease.

Well if the deck isn't to old you could get lucky and just replace the shaft mine was $28 each. I guess older decks you have to replace the entire spindle at well over $100 each according to parts department. Make sure your bearings have one seal off on one side and one on, on the other side so grease can get in there. I had to remove a seal on every bearing. Yes I was greasing sealed bearings.

Well, just go off the phone with PT. $260 for one spindle. This is the shaft, and the disk that holds the blades, not the bearings. Or I can order just the shaft at $90 with reduced shipping costs and have someone cut and weld it in. Guess which way I went. Of course I had my hopes set on a different price. So much for dreaming.

Wasabi. On my system there is a pin that holds the nut in place, not a key. Not to say I can't get it all to line up that way, but there is a hole drilled through the shaft and you slap a pin through it.

Thanks Carl,

Just got back to farm last nite pulling a trailer full of furniture and household goods.
Plan to tear into the mower deck later today or tomorrow and will investigate further.

It keeps getting worse. Got my spindle yesterday, and took it down to my neighbor who is a master mechanic. He looked at it and said pass. He didn't want to weld the spindle in because "the metal around the spindle weld is fatigued. I took it to the local machine shop, they agreed but are going to build "washers" to give me some meat. Pick up on Wednesday. Also ordered some new blades from the water jet cutting guy in the back of the shop.
